Stuart A. Young graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University in 1974 and completed his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida College of Law in 1977. He began practicing law in Palm Bach County as an Assistant Public Defender where he was Chief of the County Court Division. He later practiced with several firms in the Palm Beach County area.
In 1985, Stuart A. Young formed his own law firm concentrating on personal injury and bankruptcy cases. Mr. Young, while attending the University of Florida College of Law, was an instructor of law students. Having argued cases in County Court, the Circuit Courts of Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach, the Fourth District Court of Appeal and the Federal District Court, Mr. Young has a broad variety of experience.
Stuart A. Young is Board Certified in Consumer Bankruptcy Law. Achieving the distinction of "Board Certification in Consumer Bankruptcy Law" requires the passing of a comprehensive written exam, the demonstration of substantial experience in the field of bankruptcy law, the completion of continuing legal education programs, as well as favorable evaluations by judges and other lawyers. Stuart Young has attained the distinction of being an "A-V" rated attorney by the Martindale-Hubbel Rating System. An "A-V" rating is the highest rating attainable and denotes a "Very High-Preeminent" legal ability with very high ethical standards. In addition, Mr. Young has also been selected for inclusion in the "Register of Preeminent Lawyers".
Mr. Young received the 1989 Bankruptcy Award and the 1994 Bankruptcy Award presented by the Palm Beach County Bar Association. He has also been the Chairman of the Continuing Legal Education Committee for Bankruptcy of the Palm Beach Bar Association from 1989 through 1993. Mr. Young is a featured author of the Florida Keystone Lawyer's Desk Library.
Mr. Young has been a featured commentator on Bankruptcy Law on WPEC-Ch. 12 "Live at Five" and has been a frequent talk show host and guest on WPBR's "Your Legal Forum".
Elliot R. Brooks
Elliot R. Brooks graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with honors, from the University of Miami in 1970. Prior to enrolling in law school, he was employed as a financial analyst by the firm of Dunn and Bradstreet in their California offices.
He then attended law school at Florida State University and graduated with honors in 1973.
Mr. Brooks is an "A-V" rated attorney and was selected for inclusion in the "Register of Preeminent Lawyers".
After becoming a member of the Florida Bar in 1974, Mr. Brooks was employed by the Office of the Public Defender in Palm Beach County. During his tenure with this office, he served terms as Chief of the Appellate Division. In 1977, Mr. Brooks opened his own office where for the next ten years he was engaged as a sole practitioner in the field of personal injury law. State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company was his largest client.
In January of 1993, the long friendship between Elliot Brooks and Stuart Young culminated in a merger of their law firms thereby giving rise to the present law firm of Young, Brooks & Pefka. Mr. Brooks practices in the area of personal injury (representing injured people exclusively), commercial and insurance law.
David D. Pefka obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Albany in 1984. Mr. Pefka then went on to obtain his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1987, and became a member of the Florida Bar the same year.
He has practiced personal injury law with a leading insurance defense firm in Palm Beach County, whose representative clients include State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company and State Farm Fire and Casualty Insurance Company.
Mr. Pefka then joined Young, Brooks & Pefka in 1990. His knowledge and insights from the personal injury defense field have become a valuable asset to the firm.
